Sitting in the music room the other day and this soulful disco jam comes on with a hook that I can't stop singing.  When asked if it was something I'd play on my show, I scoffed and said - maybe in 1979.  But then I kept listening and recognized some modern keys - the roboto voice, the lyrics...

"She's up all night 'til the sun
I'm up all night to get some
She's up all night for good fun
I'm up all night to get lucky"

This ain't no 70's jam.  So when I found out it was the new Daft Punk, I resolved to jam it a few more times and give it a test on my show.  What do you think?

The Virgins were formed after a Ryan McGinley photo shoot brought together Donald Cumming and Wade Oates to work on tracks Cumming had begun. The two other members joined shortly after; Erik Ratensperger, and Nick Ackerman. The Virgins have gained popularity recently due to the CW show Gossip Girl featuring five of their songs in one episode and recent participation in SXSW. Erik Ratensperger left the band at the end of 2008 and has since been replaced with Kevin [last name unknown as of yet].

Naming a band is a difficult thing, but this laid-back festival gives these quirky bands a perfect time to make a splash. These seven bands showed up with the most peculiar names this past weekend and will perform again next weekend at the Coachella Valley Arts & Music Festival in Indio, California. These bands are: Been Trill, Dog Blood, Jello Biafra and The Guantanamo School of Medicine, Portugal, The Man, Sam XL Pure Filth Sound, THe Airborne Toxic Event, and Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra.
