Have you heard about Uber? It's a private care service that has been big in some cities on the mainland over the past few years. Basically, you download an app and hire private cars to take you around town like a VIP. They've been testing things out for the past few weeks in and around Honolulu, and the service officially launches on Thursday. You can check out Uber Honolulu's webiste, or this article from The Business Journal:
The car-hailing technology company Uber is entering the Honolulu car service market with a mobile app that will connect passengers to licensed professional drivers. Uber launched in the Honolulu market with " secret Ubers " in mid-July, and is preparing for an official launch on Thursday, complete with an invitation-only launch party at Waiolu Ocean View Lounge at the Trump Hotel Waikiki Beach Walk.
